One of the key message from Mobile World Congress of 2010 is that Mobile operators around the world are joining hands to sort the fragmentation issue on mobile phones. Some of the world’s largestmobile operators have joined forces to launch this platform. once this platform is launched , this will create a so called wholesale application community. It will be able to combine 15 of the largest operators includingAmerica Movil, At&T, T-Mobile, KT, NTT Docomo, Orange, Telecom Italia, Telefonica, Telenor, Telesonera, Sprint. There are four more operators in the Joint Innovation Lab(JIL) mobile apps initiative Vodafone, China mobile, Softbank and Verizon wireless are also included. This group serves 3 billion mobile customers all over the world.
With all this development questions are being asked if all this development means rest of the world against Apple that has its own well established apps store. Handset manufacturers like Sony Ericsson, LG and Samsung who do not have a significant apps business yet are supporting this operators led initiative.
The operators alliance is planning to use both JIL and OMTP’sBONDI requirements initially and eventually evolving into a common standard within the next 12 months. It is not clear yet what it will do in terms of competition in apps business but it looks that it would address the so-called fragmented application market place. This initiative will also help operators to capture revenue generating apps business. It will be interesting to see how the developers who want to take advantage of this opportunity would re-adjust their development and marketing strategies before and after this opportunity is fully materialized in terms of the availability and finalization of the common standards.
We are back from Barcelona. It was really busy. For those who have not visited Barcelona this year, it was not sunny as usual. It was still very busy and full of excitement with new announcements from different big names from the industry. I will share some of my observations and views in the blogs over the next few days. In the mean time please enjoy some of the pictures from the show.
Tricastmedia will be attending Mobile world Congress between 15th and the 17th of February 2010 in Barcelona.
We will be taking selected TWUIK powered applications and demos to the show. We would love to show these apps to our potential partners in this show. Please come and visit us at the Scotland stand in Hall 1. If we are busy in meetings please leave you contact details and requested information we will come back to you as soon as we can. Look forward to see you in Barcelona folks.
With Mobile World Congress approaching fast we are asking ourselves, what message we will expect in terms of future for Mobile industry in this show. Some analysts are certainly pointing out few trends like Smarter phones dumber pipes(network), phones becoming doctors with more hardware functionalities, money transfer through mobile phones beyond mobile banking, better battery technology andpeople sharing more personal information on mobile phones.Augmented reality that not many people are aware of just now can also play an important part in the early part of next decade.Question is how different players in the industry are going to respond to changes and new trends in their relevant sectors.
We are in Barcelona next week for the annual Mobile World Congress. If you’re attending and want to meet us, just drop an email to “info@tricastmedia.com”. We have plenty of new cool stuff to show case. There are new apps that redfine the term “HOT APPS”. All those interested please do email us to arrange a meeting, we are always happy to speak to old and new friends
We have re-branded our Twitter mobile app to “Tweeter Mobile”. All you twitter mobile lovers will get a version update message on your twitter mobile app. We recommend you do update.
On the update note, we thank all twitter mobile users out there for their fabulous feedback and comments on numerous blogs and forums. We are working towards implementing as many feature requests as possible that we think will add the greatest value to the application. Please stay tuned for announcement on a version update with extra features and functionality. Also to be announced the Black Berry and Touch Screen version of Tweeter Mobile to be released soon.
It’s been an uphill struggle to get this out, and get it out right, but we finally managed it. Our QA manager is one hard cookie to please but eventually the dev team got the product polished to release quality and Voila! Sunday 31st May, 23:00 hours marked the launch of V2 . We believe we have a far superior software compared to its predecessor and we really hope you like it. Check it out at www.tricastmail.com
Like always please give us your feedback via comments through this blog or directly via email at info@tricastmedia.com.
Let us know what you think – we shall be releasing a developer site in the next few days where you can post questions on the forum. Or post a comment here.
TWUIK has been eagerly awaited by the mobile development community; we have not rushed this release as we wanted to get it right from the get-go.
TWUIK will be under constant development, we here at Tricast Media value any constructive comments and feedback that will help us improving what has already proven to be a valuable mobile development commodity.
BlackBerry developers - have you noticed how all BlackBerry applications have that kind of serious, business feel to them? Do BlackBerry users enjoy applications with graphically rich interfaces, providing engaging user experiences?
Yes?
Well we though so too. So we are making it a priority now to port TWUIK to BlackBerry.
Watch this space.
Ah well, guess I’ll just hire someone to walk my dog…
Do you remember when you were looking for some information you would have to go out into the rain and walk to a ‘Library’, and look at ‘Periodicals’, ‘Newspapers’ and ‘Books’ for hours, while a condescending 312 year old Bride-of-Dracula library assistant screamed “Silence!” at you every time you breathed or turned a page?
Do you remember having to ask your Mum permission to use the phone? If you actually had a phone that is…some of us didn’t you know.
I remember all these things, and I totally worship the computer age, the availability of information, and all this simple communication. Thank you ‘The internet’.
“Why?” I hear you ask, am I taking you all a stroll down Rememberry Lane?
Well it is all very simple really…It’s all about Twitter.
I will admit it took me a little time to buy into the whole Twitter thing (as it does for anything not associated with ‘real’ objects like books and telephones that weigh in at a cool 40 Kilograms (see the first paragraphs)) and when we started developing our own Twitter Mobile application I did feel that it may well just be a passing phase.
Of course the knowledge that I was wrong (again) cheered me up no end…but the fact is that Twitter is here to stay, and is anything but a simple fad, and that’s a good thing.
The fame that Twitter that has been vicariously granted through simply being used by the famous (well, we never stop hearing about them and their antics so its maybe the same thing) has created this Twitter Monster, so thank you Chris Moyles, Jonathan Ross and Stephen Fry, you are all forgiven.
Keeping this in mind we have decided, in our ineffable wisdom, that we will produce Twitter Mobile Version Two rather than upgrading Version One from Beta to General Release.
Why? Because Twitter is and is going to be HUGE! We are producing Version Two so that we can handle many, many more devices and give more of you guys out there a chance to download this wonderful, classy, and above all, free application; and with much, much more going on under the bonnet I can assure any potential Twitter Mobile Users out there that, no matter how outstanding Version One is, Version Two is going to be GREAT!
We would like to welcome anyone who wishes to subscribe to this blog, anyone who wishes to ask any questions, or indeed anyone who wishes to just jot down a comment or two for us to read.
We welcome all sorts of comments so please subscribe and let us know what you think, and include links to your blogs and websites also as I would like to read what you are up to as well.
You need not be Swiftian in your wit, nor Gatesian (if there indeed is such a thing) in your grasp of Technical know-how but please be assured that any questions or contributions that are made will be answered as soon as we (i.e. me) can answer them. With this in mind please make your comments sensible and clean (just imagine that your Granny is going to read them before you press the ’submit’ button). We shall be moderating this blog on a regular basis so your comments should appear fairly quickly.
That said I hope that we can start to develop a TWUIK based communtity and this is one of our goals - once we get TWUIK out there to you guys.
Last week saw the release of our newest mobile application in the ‘Lovely to look and lovely to use’ category. This was of course none other than the wonderful Twitter Mobile client.
See Twitter Mobile for the free (Yes! You heard me. It’s free!) download.
Now as we all know, thanks to such celebs as Robert Llewellyn (Anyone remember Red Dwarf? Its making a comeback y’know!), and Barack Obama, Twitter is the social networking tool. You can follow your friends (and the celebs) and find out what they are thinking and doing, or thinking about doing, without ever being called a stalker.
Which is nice.
But seriously, a lot of thought has went into the production of the Twitter Mobile application and it’s out there - so download it and let us know what you think.
We are also working hard on our Tricast Mail clients, of which our V1 has just been awarded Java certification (Hurrah!), which is good but is nothing on the V2 application which comes packed with all sorts of goodies and widgets.
Come visit us HERE and see what we’re all about and find out about our TWUIK SDK. More news of that in future blog entries…
We are happy to announce that Twitter Mobile Beta version is now available for all Sony Ericsson users. We are working hard to get the Nokia S60 and S40 device support released ASAP. We are aiming to support Motorola and Blackberry in the near future.
It has taken longer than expected in releasing V2 but we have been inundated with customer projects and work that internal product development had to be sidelined unfortunately.
Anyway we are back on track and hard at work putting the final touches to the release of Tricast Mail V2 and Twitter Mobile applications. We are targeting a release end of this month so remember to download your free copy when released. Play casino online.
More details on V2 and Twitter mobile to come soon but also to be announced is our ambitious roadmap of great applications to be launched this year so keep an eye on Tricatsmedia website.
We have been through a lot since the very first launch of Tricast Mail in 2006 when it was better known as Pegasus. Ticast Mail was released for a small price on our webite.
It has always been in our roadmap plan and we are pleased to announce that finally, V1 is completely FREE for download
But that’s not all, we are about to launch version 2 of Tricast Mail which is better and bolder than its predecessor and that too will be completely, totally, and Irrevocably FREEEEEEE!!
V2 is absolutely gorgeous and beats any mobile email application out in the market. Try it out for yourself in a few weeks time. Stay tuned to www.tricastmedia.com
One of the main reasons for success of traditional internet may be its openness and uniform platform for PCs. Browsers are relatively standardised and the tools to create databases and complex systems, such as Linux and SQL, are widely and freely available as open source software (OSS) through General Public Licenses (GPL). This environment has made it easy to develop for the web and has enabled the community to focus on what they do they do best - create fresh and compelling contents, rather than worry about how to deliver it.
With the mobile internet, however the market has been highly fragmented. As smart phones are getting smarter and newer platforms like Googles’s android and Apples’s iPhones, recently-continue to enter the market. This will widen the gulf between high-end devices and low cost, mass market handsets. In this environment, content developers and application developers need access to the right kind of enabling technology to reach the mass market. They need software that can overcome fragmentation issues as well as scale to support applications as they become successful across multiple markets in the longer run.
A UI platform like TWUIK can allow developers to create beautiful applications across billions of Handsets worldwide that cover Java ME, BlackBerry Java, DOJA, BREW and Open platforms like Windows Mobile and Symbian. Popular desktop application or web application/service providers can easily bring the same experience to the mobile space using technology like TWUIK. Our rich UI framework can assist developers quickly deploy mobile solutions. Examples of some of the demo applications developed using this UI are provided on our web site under the video gallery. Feedback and comments highly appreciated
Last month we were back in San Francisco. Sunny San Francisco with beautiful sea side views always makes an everlasting impression on us Glaswegians .
One thing about San Francisco is that we had to take a crash course in the formula for tipping in CA. Although a friend who lives locally advised us about the tips requirement during our early trips but we did not take a serious note of that. During the last few visits we have learnt that tipping does not mean any thing unless it meets the 15-20% formula. In one of the restaurant during our dinner on the first night we were asked about the service more than a dozen time. We had to make sure that we tip before leaving.
Leaving the tipping issue aside we enjoyed the technology show. The choice of food in down town area is great. San Francisco is definitely a good place to visit for business and leisure.
We arein Barcelona this week for the annual Mobile World Congress… lotsa meetings lined up. If you want to meet us, just drop an email to “info@tricastmedia.com”. Plenty of demos to showcase.
Here is a snippet from an article of a recent interview with Igor Jablokov CEO of YAP (TWUIK Customer)…
“Independent of those activities, we are continually upgrading the client and are happy to be partnered with Tricastmedia (they are based in the UK); they allow our crazy visions for next generation visual user interfaces to be possible on low resource devices. By the time we are finished, a child will be able to open up their parent’s mobile phone, ask “why is the sky blue?” and we will answer them a second later. This dream of bringing all human knowledge to you within a single click makes all these late nights worth it…”
We took this video to show TWUIK Transition Effects (”Transition” is one of 3 Visual Effects Library available, the other being “Transformation” and “Motion”) run on a low-end Nokia S40 handset. Tomorrow, we are going to post videos of TWUIK running on Motorola K1 (ARM 7 55MHz), and some other non-smartphone devices. Pictures speak a thousand words.
